If you are willing to spend on a luxury home for your vacation, you can do so by all means. But one problem with luxury home rentals, as fellow members suggested, is that you don't find too many of them in the not-so-popular vacation spots. Of course, in popular vacation spots like Hawaii, you can find tens of hundreds of them. But I read somewhere that out of the thousands of homes available, some of them are not certified and are illegally run in the city. So, while going for a luxury home, you need to be really careful and go for the legit ones. You can also get in touch with the locals to find out the legit ones or get the help of people who have already been to the place to know about that.

Vacation home rentals can be a lot more comfortable than a reasonably good timeshare unit. But, there are a few things you might want to consider. First of all, you don't get luxury vacation homes in every other vacation spot. More often than not, you might not be able to find a luxury vacation home in your vacation spot, as they are few and far between. They are not as wide-spread as timeshare resorts. Moreover, the kind of money you can save by timesharing cannot be simply matched. You will have to spend a lot more on these homes.

Luxury home rentals are nothing but big luxury homes that you can rent for your vacation. They are meant for people who love to have a space of their own for the vacation with lots of privacy. Sometimes two or more families (who are friends) can also share the home and split the costs among themselves. But they are way more expensive than timeshares. You need to spend a lot to get a well furnished luxury home in a vacation area, since the demand will be high. If you ask me, I'd prefer timeshare over luxury homes any day.
