Hi everyone. I've got a doubt regarding points. One of my friends asked me this question and I had no answer to him. The question is this - If I upgrade my week to points and then I sell it, should the buyer pay charges for the points or do they get automatically transferred to the buyer? I understand you have to pay quite an amount to convert your week to points, so it is only natural that the buyers would be concerned whether they have to pay that amount again from their pocket. I'd appreciate your answers. Thanks very much in advance.
Oldnhappy, I agree with you. But you have to accept one fact - it is not just the developer or the sales guy who takes you for a ride - we don't cross check the details and we pay for it. We need to read the contract properly to understand what is being said about the unit. As you know, if the resort wants to charge you conversion fee, they would have mentioned it in the contract. If you read the contract properly and feel you can't pay the fee, you can simply opt out. No one is compelling you. Also, it differs from resort to resort, especially in the case of RCI. You can avoid all these things by being a little careful while signing the contract.

Bob, I couldn't agree with you more. The contract reading part is conveniently left out by some people, and they pay for it. You can also avoid these confusions by getting some help from your friends or forums like this. After all, you can get honest, unbiased opinions from people who have been there, done that.
Thanks oldnhappy. I appreciate that.
A lot of people actually get screwed by the sales people. Some of these sales people (not all of 'em) trash talk during the presentations and we buy it. You should always check everything twice before buying a timeshare - be it a week or points. I've heard similar stories about people who paid conversion fees even for a unit that had already been converted. So, always make sure you have the details right and don't believe in everything that a sales person says.
The answer is yes and no. In some cases, I've seen people get ripped off when they bought a timeshare week which was converted into points. They were simply told that points conversion does not transfer during the sales and they have to pay the conversion fee if they want to use those points. But in some cases, I've seen points conversion transfer during a sale. So, what I feel is it depends on the resort. Different resorts have different policies and you need to inquire all these intricate details to make sure you are not taken for a ride by the developer.
