Hi everyone. Thanks very much for your suggestions and opinions. I found them really useful. Seems like I have two options - I can get the buyer first and search for the week or I can get the week first and then search for the buyer. I'll have to think about it long and hard to come up with the decision. Anyways, you people helped me a lot. Thanks again.
Getting to know the preferences of your buyer and then reserving the week is good, but you need to do that way in advance. A lot of people don't have that much time to pick and choose the week that their buyer wants (at least, I didn't have). So, I would suggest that you book a week which is relatively a good one, the kind of week that you would want to spend with your family. Most probably, you will find takers for that. Of course, the cost issue will play a big role. Everyone knows that you can't charge a fortune for your week, so be sensible with your pricing. If you have a relatively good week with a nice price, I'm sure you can find takers in the market. To me, this is way better than looking for the week that your buyer wants at the last moment. JMHO. Cheers
Shelia and TRGate, I second your opinions. And Walter, you can very well rent out your week. As TRGate mentioned, you can either book a week and wait for a buyer to pick it up or you can ask the preference of the buyer and then try booking that week. However, you need to know a few issues.
Reserving the week you want and then looking for a buyer to pick it up is the easy way. But you can't be sure that the buyer will like the particular week you have booked. This limits your chances of getting a lot of potential buyers.
You can also choose potential buyers and ask for their preference. If you can get the week they want, you can easily rent it out. However, you need to reserve way in advance in order to be able to locate the week that your buyer wants.
You're right Shelia. A lot of people do make the mistake of renting out the week they got in exchange. RCI and II have rules clearly stating that timeshare users are not allowed to rent out or sell the week they got in exchange. If they come to know about it, the member could be banned for life.
Coming back to your point Walter - you can rent out your floating week. You can reserve a week and rent it out or you can ask the preference of the buyer and try to get him the week he wants.
Hi Walter, you can very well rent out your timeshare. But you need to be aware of one thing. You can rent out only what you own, not what you got in exchange. A lot of people make the mistake of renting out the week that they got in exchange, which is not allowed. Both RCI and II don't allow it and they have rules against it. So, if it is your own week, you can very well rent it out.

I hope this clears your doubt.
