I bought my timeshare as an investment since the salesperson told me that this thing would go up in value in next to no time. This happened around two years ago. Now when I contemplated selling it and spoke to a few companies, suddenly I feel as if I have lost out on a few thousand dollars. I don’t understand the disparity between a timeshare’s value and any other piece of real estate.
Thanks Vacationguy for your advice.
Thanks Bobby for the link. It was really informative. Seems like I had some unrealistic expectations on my timeshare. Now it's all clear. Thanks again.
I see this topic cropping up time and again from various people. You can go through this thread for a clear perspective on the issue of "value of timeshares".
Timeshare 101

First of all, you need to understand that timeshare is not like a real estate property which will gain equity over a period of time. It is quite different and you cannot expect any returns from your timeshare. If you get, then it should be considered a bonus. Also, buyers have become clever these days. They usually buy directly from the owners. This way they undercut the resort's prices.
